“Filipinos are not the easiest ones to convince of changing their ways of doing things because there's a lot of mistrust of anything new. And nobody wants to be first. You got to get them to the tipping point of mistrust, the FoMO. We've seen it with smartphones, we've seen it with social media, we've seen it with streaming music, streaming video. We did all that right. And now, hopefully we can get them to do more things digitally to see that it does improve their lives.”

How is Globe changing the lives of people in the Philippines?
In this episode, host Matt Roberts of Amdocs and his co-host Gil Rosen, CMO of Amdocs, sit down with another guest at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, Spain: Ernest Cu, CEO at Globe Telecom. Together, they discuss how the Philippines is unique and ripe for innovation and how Globe has been involved with improving the lives of Filipinos.
“We're actually seeing the enterprise domain pick up on Metaverse use cases more even than the consumer domain – like manufacturing and other areas where they are modeling things, what's called digital twins, and training and education. I would love for my daughter instead of sitting and reading a book about history, to be inside history and look around a world where she can interact with. This would be a metaverse of education and experience – a scene from the Bible, a scene from the Middle Ages or the Renaissance, and feel it in a way that in education you can’t today.”
They also discuss recent examples of tech for good, including fostering greater connection, providing better access to information, and increasing financial inclusion. Ernest also shares his perspective on emerging trends in tech like generative AI, including what kind of impact it could have on the lives of people everywhere.
